What Redefining Consultancy Means to Us and Why It’s Needed Now

Redefining Consultancy Starts with True End-to-End Consultancy Services
At TXM Consult, our greatest strength lies in the people behind our work. TXM Consult Voices brings you firsthand perspectives from our leaders and practitioners, sharing the experiences and capabilities that define our approach. Through their stories, you will see how we deliver results and create lasting impact by providing the value of end-to-end consultancy services across every stage of delivery.
In this first edition, Founder Andy Slater shares how we are redefining consultancy, not just by offering insight, but by embedding leadership that drives meaningful, measurable change.

If you have been following TXM Consult over the past five years, you will have seen us evolve, in scale, capabilities and in how we work. Our new headline, “Redefining Consultancy. Delivering Success” marks an important milestone in that journey. It reflects something that we have been building towards for a long time, a business that brings together Advisory and Delivery, shaped around what clients truly need, not just in theory, but in practice. This has always been “The Goal”.

When we started thinking about where TXM Consult was heading next, we asked ourselves some straightforward questions:
What are we here to do?  What do our clients count on us for?  And what do we want to be known for – not just now – but in five years’ time?

Those questions led us straight back to our purpose.  The reason we started in the first place.

What I saw and what I wanted to change

After two decades in rail and mobility, leading major programmes, overseeing fleet strategies, working with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), sitting on both public and private Boards, I have experienced consultancy from all angles. I have worked with some brilliant firms and exceptional people. But I have also seen the gap that can form between strategy and delivery. Between what is recommended and what is implementable. Between the promise and the outcome, so much can be lost if not translated and managed appropriately.

That disconnect doesn’t always happen because of a lack of expertise. Often, it happens because the advice comes from a distance. Without the day to day context, without having walked in the client’s shoes, without having sat in their chair and experienced the stresses and strains that come with that.

The gap was clear, what was truly needed was a partner that could help and support businesses in the “How” as well as the “What”. This has to be achieved through embedding experience, expertise and leadership behaviours, seeking to transfer those capabilities into the situation and business to provide sustainable change and transformation.

We created TXM Consult to close that gap.

Redefining how we work with clients

We built TXM Consult to offer consultancy that’s closer to the work, and closer to the people doing it. We will walk the talk and be part of the situation and the solution.

That means clients come to us for strategic thinking, for delivery support and often for both.  Whether it’s a long-term integration, where we embed deeply in your organisation or a targeted intervention to solve a specific challenge, we adapt to the need, scale and urgency of the task. We call this our integration-to-intervention model: being ready to step in at any point in the journey and to deliver where it matters most.

Our people come from across transport, infrastructure, engineering and transformation as well as from sectors such as energy, defence, technology and manufacturing. Many have worked client-side, so they understand the pressure of delivery, the realities of large organisations and the complexity of change.

That diversity of sector experience gives us a broader perspective and sharper judgement. We know how to tailor solutions, navigate internal dynamics, and drive progress even in complex, fast-moving environments and across multiple organisations.
We build relationships that last, because we show up as part of the team. We listen more than we speak. And we are willing to challenge when needed, not because we think we know better, but because we care about getting it right.

Every engagement is different.  But what stays constant is how we show up:

  • We earn trust through what we deliver, via our learned experience, not what we promise.
  • We embed ourselves in your teams, side by side, we will “get our hands dirty”.
  • And we put people at the centre of everything, not just the outcome, but the process, this is the only way to make a difference.

Making It Real: What Our Approach Looks Like on the Ground

It means supporting clients through complex bidding processes, including high-value concessions, franchises and large-scale public procurement, bringing strategic insight grounded in delivery experience.

It means leading the mobilisation of new and cascaded fleets, delivering feasibility studies and aligning commercial, technical and operational streams from the start.  It means managing complex depot and fleet refurbishment programmes that extend asset life and drive measurable performance gains.

It’s stepping into high-pressure environments, whether public, private or multi-agency and helping teams gain clarity, build momentum and move forward with confidence. We leave behind embedded ways of working that continue to deliver long after we have stepped away. Our aim is to transfer knowledge and leave lasting improvement.

And it’s working in close partnership with delivery contractors, suppliers, operators and public bodies, bringing them together around shared goals, acting as one team, creating the transparency required even in fast-moving or politically sensitive environments.

In every case, our focus is the same: not just on getting the job done, but on creating value that lasts through stronger capability, better performance and clearer paths to sustainable progress.

Not a headline. A way of working.

“Redefining consultancy” isn’t about doing everything differently.  It is about doing the right things better.
It means having the experience to know what works and the humility to adapt when it doesn’t. It means being embedded, invested and accountable. And it means measuring our impact by what we leave behind, not just what we deliver on paper.
That is what delivering success looks like to us.

That is what our clients trust us to do. And it is what we are proud to keep building, every day.
